This information comes from a source with 27 years of hands-on experience, spanning artificial turf installations across46 state and diverse climatic conditions. We sponsor five-hour hands on training at our store and once the instructor has examined the first installation a certificate will be awarded. Below is an abbreviated list of the steps involved with a proper turf installation.
1. Make sure you have the proper tools (vibra plate, cushion back cutter, carpet knife, seam roller, seam jack, loop pile cutter, drop spreader (for top sand). Open the rolls of synthetic turf and let it relax for one-hour minimum.
2. Determine specific risks to the area where synthetic turf is to be installed gophers or melting from reflective surfaces.
3. Remove existing lawn and four inches of existing soil and irrigation pipes (or cap at source).
4. Install four inches of compacted base rock compact every two inches and 1/8" of silica sand.
5. Install perimeter of 2x4 pressure treated wood or 2x4 bender board.
6. Install the best synthetic turf available, stretch, remove three rows of blades just prior to seaming. Seam using seam tape and the proper amount of glue. If you need to butt seam, use the proper technique. Next screw the perimeter.
7. Turf nail every 18”. Don’t create perfect lines and don’t over sink nails.
8. Install green acrylic camo infield sand.
9. Use a power broom to distribute sand and get blades of grass to stand up straight.
